Well finally a week when I can make the rides so weather permitting, I'll be there for the Mon, Wed, Fri and Sat rides with the hope for Commutes on Thurs and Fri.
Wow...What a fantastic ride today for the Meals on Wheels fundraiser!!! Although windy, we still managed to pull off an average speed of 29.5 for the 100kms.
Mel, I am happy to hear the deck is finished but we missed you today. In saying that, it is nice to see that you respect "Grandma's rule".
Steve, thanks for waiting and hanging back for me. Plus, we both learned how to change a tire.
Good ride tonight, resonable pace. Smoothie, Rat, Cookie, Zorro, Rene, TWad,Turbo. Mount hope lots of road work going on in the city, choose your routes carefully
O.K. all you OSB commuters sign up now for Freddy's Commuter Challenge, running June 1 to Sept 1 - click on my name (Smoothie, you've got this in the bag... and thanks for posting my 'Share the Road' article - we need to continue to get this message out!).
The contest says this: "The first 500 participants to complete 15 alternate commuting trips will receive a Freddy’s Commuter Challenge reusable jute bag. The first 200 participants to complete 25 alternate commutes will receive a stainless steel water bottle. The first 50 participants to complete 40 alternate commutes will receive a special prize to be announced later."
Online registration opens @ 11am today. Go TEAM OSB! And ride safe...
"A bicycle does get you there and more.... And there is always the thin edge of danger to keep you alert and comfortably apprehensive. Dogs become dogs again and snap at your raincoat; potholes become personal. And getting there is all the fun." ~Bill Emerson, "On Bicycling," Saturday Evening Post, July 1967
Click my name again for new link to register for Freddy's Commuter Challenge (scroll down a bit to sign up) . . . Sorry, link I gave in last post isn't live yet.
Your sign-up process does not enable me to indicate that I am not employed by one of the Government agencies in the drop-down list. There should be Private Sector or "none of the above" list item.
1) The Quac loop via Rocky Rd-Key Rd but turn at Sisson back to BC and in on 104(?or is it 105) to Keswick Landing and back as per usual to StepSton. 2)The same loop as last Wed but in reverse and cross over Bishop to Hanwell to Prospect and down to Golf Club Rd, to StepSton
Seabass: Don't anyone of you be getting the wrong idea about the fact that I'll be riding with you again tonight! I love every group I ride with equally... It's got nothing to do with love and everything to do with weather. It's got nothing to do with last Wednesday's exceptional ride and the fact that I want Jean-Guy's bike for myself! Tonight is nice weather with OSB, tomorrow is not nice weather with RE! THAT IS ALL!
Anyway, I vote for the DAM loop even though my vote probably only counts for 1/4 or a vote.
Just a note to remind all of us. That safe riding "trumps" all. By this we mean "when in pace-line" The front(lead) rider is responsible to point out hazards. With enough notice for the message to get conveyed back to all. BEFORE they are upon the danger. Plus: Single file riding should be the normal sequence. Nuff said Lets have fun
Wonderful Wednesday Wide,Wow What w Woute Wrat. Nice mix of Testosterone and estrogen. Great to have everyone out. Just a sprinkle of rain by the time I got home. Click on Turbo for Anna's new helmet
It was a lonely commute today. Rat, Steve, Jamie, where are you? Are you around tomorrow? Could be rainy, if so, ride Friday, if only wet roads, see you there (or not)
Wow, it sounds like I missed out on something this evening. You looked like a good group heading out of town. I'm out with a disgusting cold this week, then out of town next, but hoping to hit the commute after that.
Omni: Tomorrow looks more promising, it was a good decision not to commute today. See you at 7:35 in front of MacLean's Sports on Union Street, Northside.
Will commute in am if sufficiently dry, will drive over to leave from yer place smoothy. If too wet will try a commute from work with ya but will be in contact to let you know.
We had a great ride on a tough route Wed so how about the relatively flat route I'll call the reverse Whittaker. From the StepSton out the Lincoln Road to Wasis around to Whittaker in the 101 thru New Maryland across Bishop to Hanwell left on Prospect and down to the Golf Club Rd back to Stepston. If we cross at Never rather than out past the airport to Wasis we cut off 5k.
Just back from the 2nd 'meeting' in as many weeks - held this time on the Quac loop. 'We' should be good for the OSB paceline by August...... 2011. The once/week training regime is going to ramp up, however, so we are hopeful. Time, kids, work, weather permitting.
Today on the agenda was 'The Power of One' and 'Strong & Solo'. Same guest speaker for both. We also touched on some philosophical questions:
a) Can there be wind when the trees aren't moving? and, if 'yes' to a); then, b) How does it blow both ways on the Quac loop?; and c) If one is wearing a jersey that says JINX in large bold letters - does that make b) come true? Or only for the superstitious? If Jinx is the name of a beer can it be bad? (click on PPA above)
The meetings are lonely; the discussions are lively but one-sided; and there is a healthy amount of self-loathing. This week the group concluded that the 'Power of One' sucks.....some days. On the upside, we have a nice looking bike.
Please post to keyword 'Jinx' or 'Solo' if the OSB forecast calls for paceline average of sub-30km/hr.... er...I mean... closer to maybe 28... (and if Jazz will switch out and look after the kids).
You are thinking I had too much time in my own head, right? Yes, and it is friggin' chaotic in there.
Signed, OSB Team Solo Member(s): Sonya H.
p.s. anyone know if the Edge has handlebar tassels? p.p.s. if the posts continue to be this long, don't worry, 'we' will start our own blog.
Get epilogue, Eco-Girl. All time in saddle counts. Think of how strong you will be when pulled in a paceline. Re; the family/kids they grow/go up fast. Think once they are out and about you'll always have Jazz, to require your quideance.
Omni: Special day today. Leaving the office at 2:00! The birthday boy is coming to pick me up and we ride home! What a treat. Why don't you ride with the group at 5:30? Usually, I leave at 5:00 and I always welcome the company.
just like Cookie tells people the only difference between (son) Cody and Turbo is Cody more mature. I thanked him for the compliment gotta go lube the chain
I will either be at the SS at 8 or on the Westmorland Street bridge to ride where ever, it looks like we will have 'til 10:30ish to ride until we get wet.
Seabass said...For those of you who might be more tempted in riding on Sunday, I'm trying to get some people together for Sunday morning round 9AM... 100K + ride... Don't know where yet but it may also include a coffee stop... Just let me know via email @ sebastien.boudreau@yahoo.ca...
When I peeled off the front and sat-up on Phillips Rd I experienced a rather unpleasant spasm/cramp in my back ... I had felt things get a little tight while pulling along the 101, but dismissed it as being out-of-shape. Guess it would have been better to keep pulling.
The rest of you were having a good run into town, as once I got the kinks worked out, I made little progress in closing the gap between New Maryland and Knowledge Park ... and I was rolling at 35kph.
It's evident that Friday Social rides are moving in faster circles this year ... its gotta be Bubbles doing ;)
Hye Omni, it's hard to best "teamwork" I peeled off after my pull an kept waitng for you to go by. needless to say I got spit out. but Dish and Leya pulled me back. all good.
Great ride last night indeed. Not once did I feel like puking (different than Wed. ride...).
I'm looking to get a Garmin 305 w/ attachment for measuring cadence. If anyone's trying to offload one, or can suggest some good places to purchase, drop me an email: Leah.Levac@unb.ca
Guess I'm away so much that I'm no longer part of the team :( ... not that I mind trying to fight my way back on ... lots of experience there.
Leah,
Surprisingly one of the best prices on the Garmin 305 Cadence module is from a little company in Minnedosa, MB - Prairie Geomatics Ltd. I stumbled across them a few years ago when visiting my Grandmother (who lived there).
I too need to order one - lost mine - so we could combine the order and save on shipping. I'll send an e-mail.
If there are any others who would like to order GPS bits ... pipe-up and we could place a larger order.
I have always had a theory that it never rains all day. This weekend is a good example. We road yesterday morning and returned just as it began to rain. Today, I just got back from a ride around Mactaquac. I saw one other couple out riding then bumped into Nils around Golf Club Road. He accompanied me home and then set off around the "Quac". See you on the road...

What a great day.
Stinky: That's an impressive average speed for that distance and that wind. I had heard that you are riding well this year. Keep it up.
Kudo's to all the M o W riders. Good deed for a great cause.
Stinky or Quinky is on pace for a fantastic year. Git-er-done.
Awww...Thank guys. It is going to be a great and fun year for all of us.
Good ride tonight, resonable pace.

Who decides what is a "reasonable pace?"
Garmin 305!!!
Cookie decides what is a reasonable pace. It's all the European riding - he's so friggin strong this year.
Great ride tonight guys. AD was making sure no one escaped!

There is an associated page listing the projects. Altho' it's a PITA, we are lucky to have sufficient funding to accomplish so much work this year.
The City of Fredericton thanks you for your patience and apologizes for any inconvenience we may cause.

Choice of 2 routes proposed:
1) The Quac loop via Rocky Rd-Key Rd but turn at Sisson back to BC and in on 104(?or is it 105) to Keswick Landing and back as per usual to StepSton.
2)The same loop as last Wed but in reverse and cross over Bishop to Hanwell to Prospect and down to Golf Club Rd, to StepSton
Can decide when we get there.

Omni,
Will forward that issue to 'In Motion' people - I'm just messenger on this one. Me thinks they are working out some 'bugs'....obviously, this is one.

Smoothie,
Here I am excited to finally be in the right country for the commute and the balance of the week is looking un peu humide :(
If, by some chance, the weathermen are off-key, and there is no dawn deluge, I shall "commute with Smoothie"

Sorry Smoothie, working this week, should be able to make it for a couple next week..
Wow, it sounds like I missed out on something this evening. You looked like a good group heading out of town. I'm out with a disgusting cold this week, then out of town next, but hoping to hit the commute after that.
I'll vouch for the incivility of Hairpin's cold, but warn you that she is not above sharing it!
Smoothie, it was raining with intent when I awoke this morning, so I skipped both the run and the commute ... perhaps tomorrow?
Omni:
Tomorrow looks more promising, it was a good decision not to commute today. See you at 7:35 in front of MacLean's Sports on Union Street, Northside.
Thanks OSB for the great Wed. ride - loved it!!! I'll be back, and yes that Black/Gold helmet would look smashing with my bike....hmmmm
Will commute in am if sufficiently dry, will drive over to leave from yer place smoothy.
If too wet will try a commute from work with ya but will be in contact to let you know.
Happy Birthday Rat!!
Happy 25-th Rat! :O)
Happy birthday and have a great day Rat. Hopefully the weather is good so you can get out and ride on your time off.
See you all next week. I am off to Bathurst for lobster.
We had a great ride on a tough route Wed so how about the relatively flat route I'll call the reverse Whittaker.

Oh and thank you for the well wishes esp Laszlo my fellow half centurion.
And Stinky, please come back with all of yer fingers.
Happy Birthday Rat! Sounds like a good route for tonight.
Smoothie,
Client had "issues" overnight, so was a little busy at commute time this morning.
What time are you leaving for the return and via what route (i.e. Lincoln or Wasis/Wilsey)?
Rat - you 39 again?
I LOVE YOU RAT!! or is that Mitch? I forget....
Happy Birthday!

Great ride tonight... Count me in Zorro for the morning... See you at the SS for 0800 hrs..
Jazz... and that was just the warm up!
