Not sure about this week biking..racing 1/2 marathon on Mothers Day and want to make it a good one. may rest up. next week back in the saddle. Hard to believe we have had such great rides in already this year.

Fun ride this afternoon.. LuLu, Stinky, Omni, Zorro and Donut.. Actually it was more like a tire repair clinic.. 3 blowouts within the group.. good times just the same..

Omni said...

Go figure ... I ride 5-7K on my first rear tubie and then this year, I've manage to destroy two in as many months ... ouch.

When Stinky and Zorro left me on the old hwy, I called the team car and had my spare wheels delivered ... of course, I forgot to remind the car to bring a pump and the tyres where just a little soft. After using my second CO2 cartridge, I had front and rear somewhere around 75# apiece, and set-off in pursuit.

I also sent the team-car up the road to find the peloton and measure the gap. You were either pulled off or had made it past the head-pond already as the car returned with no love.

... so I turned around in Islandview and called it a day. Tomorrow, I'm off to purchase yet another tyre ... but I think I'll also change my brake pads and leave the clinchers on for a bit.

Interesting, but great ride today. You know, we were quicker at changing the tires the third time around.

Omni, we did deviate from the original route. We went across the damn and up rocky road hill. Very painful, but fun as always.

Purchase Specialized Aramillos and have a flat free riding season.

zorro said...

I am riding monday 530pm SS. Weather looks good any takers?

Omni said...

"Local Add"

Thanks for taking the time to make your suggestion. While I am found of aramillos - especially with a little pimenta - it is not clear to me how they contribute to flat free riding ... let alone how one would attach them to a tubular rim.

Zorro

Are you wet?

zorro said...

Hey Bubbs: Holy Sh-t it rained hard.
All good, seen Rainbow on wet ride home.

Laszlo said...

I was running errands around the city on the bike, gut home 5min before it all started. :O)

Anyone heade out for thee ride this evening. I will be at the Stepping Stone center at 530 pm

Stinky said...

I will be there tonight, but I am not sure about the weather. I will try anyways. If not, I have my sneakers for a painful run. Any takers for a run in case it rains tonight?

Mel said...

I am back in F'ton and will likely commute to Oromocto Wednesday morning leaving home at 7:30. Any takers? Only debatable thing is if it is wet. Confirm via blog or email.

Great ride with Stinky tonight , no rain. And I went straight with her, which was kinda cool/neat/swell/groovy. Yeah, baby! This does not mean that I will "Cookie" her bike.

Smoothy, can't commute Wed but will try for Thursday and Friday, if things are dry.

Omni said...

Stinky,

I ran in Welsford tonight ... bugs were not bad, but the construction is not doing anything for the view.

Smoothy ... if things are dry later this week, I'll join you for the commute.

Stinky said...

Great ride with Rat tonight, until he killed me at the end. There was no stopping him.

So...Rat that is a confirmed NO to "Cookie" up my bike. Those were good days when Cookie would fix and clean my bike, plus, pay for pizza.

Omni, I heard the bugs are bad after supper. I hope they are not bad this weekend.

Straight back

You can all sleep peacefully tonight knowing World order has been restored. When we hit Mount Hopeless this evening, I went out the back with such conviction I had to look down to confirm which direction the wheels were turning. Being well acquainted with la lanterne rouge, this was familiar ground and confirmed suspicions that my last trip up Mount Hope(less) was an anomaly.

The ascent also served as a reminder to pay closer attention to hydration and nutrition during the work day if hanging-in is to be enjoyable ... or even an option.

Smoothie ... it looks like it will be dry for the commute in the morning. If it holds true, I'll be at the Irving by 07:30.

Mel said...

Omni:
I only leave my home at 7:30 so plan to be at the irving by 7:40 or 7:45 so that you don't have to wait too long! See you there!

Omni said...

Smoothie,

I made the mistake of checking my e-mail this morning and have a 09:00 conference call, so I am going to have to pass on the commute today.

However, I have already blocked off my calendar until 10:00 tomorrow morning :)

rat said...

Well, there's no disputin'
or refutin'
that the commutin' is
highfalootin'
bootscootin'
roottootin'
great!

82k in before 10am, a coffee and a muffin stop halfway, courtesy of Smoothy, and at a nice pace.

Sorry we missed ya' Omni. Butt where were you? We also meet at McLeans Sport on Union (if you take the first off ramp and raod to the end) for 0735.

Mel said...

I was looking into getting a couple of "Chain Catchers" for my bikes. These little items protect you from downshifting and having the chain drop off the lower chainring. I need two, Rat wanted one or two. They maybe available as a special order thru Radical (I spoke to Brian about this). If you are interested, let me know. They work to protect your expensive carbon fiber. Go to:

http://www.acecosportgroup.com/shop/k-edge-chain-catchers/road.html

to read about them if you don't already know. You can even order your color. Did I mention that they are about $40-$50?

Donut said...

Hey Smoothie

I plan on joining you for the commute in the morning as long as the weather cooperates.. See ya at MacLeans for 730.. You in Rat??

Mel said...

Weather looks fine, see you at MacLean's btw, we usually meet at 7:35.
RAT,Thanks for the poem, who would have known??

rat said...

I am in weatherpermitting as per Donuts proviso.
Smoothy, will call if not going to make it.
And thanks for noticing the poem.

Turbo said...

anyone riding the friday night spin?

zorro said...

I am in for Fri Night Turbo

rat said...

Another commute in. Thought might have been lifted to the land of Oz. Going down river with not excess effort, doing 40+ for 6km at itmes even at 50-51 so didn't bode well for the return ride, by myself, Donut! Had struggled to do 15k into the wind by the entrance to the airport. On the ride home was doing 42 down a slight hill, sheltered turned into the wind and within 100m was down to 21k/h. Butt het at least I was out, Donut! :)

Turbo said...

Sorry Zorro, can't make friday night ride, and fishing this weekend. seen you soon

Omni said...

Rat,
Smoothie,

Sorry for standing you up again.

I was up and on my way out the door this morning when I received a better offer.

Can't say as I missed the wind

Jazz said...

Zorro - I'm in for tonight. Maybe it will be less windy than last Friday? Let's do Rocky Road again if we get to choose...hopefully I won't cramp before we START climbving this time! See you SS at 5:30.

zorro said...

Sounds Good Jazz: See you at 530pm

Bubbles said...

What are the plans for tomorrow's ride? Hopefully it will be less windy. Time? Route? Would like to ride tomorrow at 1000 or after. I assume Rat would too but haven't asked him.

Omni: What can be a "Better offer"? You had better explain? Plus, Donut, where were you?? It wasn't raining, not even close!

Mel said...

Let's ride tomorrow morning, forecast looks better in the a.m. Thank goodness the wind will be down! It was brutal this afternoon!

Mel said...

Why don't we bike at 10?? Sounds good to me and the forecast says it will be relatively calm! Thank goodness!!

Too early for Rat and I. We have to drop Mathieu off at 0945 so 1000 is as early as we can go. If anyone wants to ride at 1000, leave a message on the blog.

Bubbles said...

Smoothy, you in for 1000?

Mel said...

I am in for 10:00! Where do you wish to meet? I can meet anywhere.

I got to the top of the Hanwell Rd hill waaaay faster than y'all did this morning. And was it ever effortless. Just wanted to mention that, in case you didn't notice.

Thanks Turbo! Sir Speedy said "Mama just run your best".... so I did. Unfortunately, at this stage, 'my best' only allowed me to see the backside of Herc ;-) In Greek mythology only supernatural forces and magic can defeat demi-god Hercules. Forget all this training - I need some magic tricks! Gonna post a wanted ad on kijiji....
