Hey glad you guys had a good ride Sat. I ended up with 117km by the time I got into our site at Grand Lake. Had a good swim and a couple beers after too! Thanks to everyone who came out Friday night for the BBQ. Hopefully next time the future Mrs. No Doubt will be out on the ride too! Cookie, I'm in for MTB Monday evening.

Discussion point: Should the Blog master have the sole discretion to censor our OSB Blog or should postings remain as posted and be subject to peer review?

Anonymous said...

King....I got a couple of Suitcases with your name on it.
Sorry dude it is the Lite stuff. Sorry there aint no Schooner in QC.

Censorship, I am a fan of George Orwell's 1984. Newspeak is what the "Party" used to describe why censorship is good ?!?

"Newspeak is a fictional language in George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four. In the novel, it is described as being "the only language in the world whose vocabulary gets smaller every year." Orwell included an essay about it in the form of an appendix[1] in which the basic principles of the language are explained. Newspeak is closely based on English but has a greatly reduced and simplified vocabulary and grammar. This suits the totalitarian regime of the Party, whose aim is to make any alternative thinking – "thoughtcrime", or "crimethink" in the newest edition of Newspeak – or speech impossible by removing any words or possible constructs which describe the ideas of freedom, rebellion and so on. One character says admiringly of the shrinking volume of the new dictionary: "It's a beautiful thing, the destruction of words."

Long love a FREE Non Censored OSB BLOG'

Tank Founding Member(Dues are paid up as well and I bought a FULL Kit for the 2009 Season :)

Re: Censorship. I fully support the Blogmaster (whoever it happens to be at the time) having the right to censor out inappropriate or offensive postings. I would like the Blog to be kept "clean" (Well...relatively clean by OSB standards) and for that to be practically done, the discretion needs to be in the hands on one person.

Plesant, breezy labour day am ride. Bubbles, Rat, Argon Bob, Darren (soon to be named) Mayo Turbo. Couple of early on flats. but we did a Magyver Bazooka Joe patch job and smooth sailing. 68KM loop, with social breakfast afterwards.

Anonymous said...

Great morning ride once the flat was fixed. I was sent to a house to ask for some scissors. So,as I approached the house of a pet groomer I said, "Could I borrow a pair of scissors to fix a flat?" To my surprise, the woman said, "No, I don't think so!" Well, I said, "What about a small knife, I'll bring it right back!" She hesitated and then her husband intervened. She thought I said "Could I take your scissors, my dog has a matt!!!" Guess she thought I was going to be bad for business.

Looking for a WSD saddle. Erin's in need of a new one I think. Kathy, would you still have your original saddle off your madone? That probably would be a woman specific right? We were out to the Junction for breakfast and had 67km for her longest ride so far. She's napping now :).

Anonymous said...

I vote for no censorship. Let people say what they want to say.

Anonymous said...

Saddles, do I have saddles! I think Rat is using the one off my Madone, I'll check. However, I do have a black WSD exactly the same as my pink one (I got it from Cookie no less. It's very comfortable, just not a pretty). I also have another WSD that I tried before that one. It is black and split at the back. She is welcome to try any or all. Just drop by.

Sounds like you all had some good times today . I was under pressure to deliver Breakfast to all who had the day off. I wish I could of made a ride today but the Private sector some times does not allow such pleasures. After 13 hours of cooking the only thing to do is have a Beer. Labor Day what a Joke !!!!

Hey, the Babes on Bikes event is this weekend. It's a fun, fully supported weekend of recreational riding for women. I'm only free Sunday, so I want to join the Fundy road ride and wrap-up dinner. Any other women in the same situation want to share a ride there? E-mail me: MurrayKL at hotmail dot com

Penniac MTB ride 2 pm Sunday Sept 7. Matt says:

There will be a group mtb ride at the Hadley house Sunday at 2 pm. We will ride about 2hrs, and plan on splitting up into a fast and a medium pace group. We've worked on some of the trails to add even more flow, so they're pretty fun and in good shape.

Directions: get to Marysville, go 'up river' on river street (by big brick cotton mill), past the metal Penniac bridge and continue on the main paved rd (stay right at the paved fork) until house 662 on the right hand side, about 200m before the end of the penniac rd. We are about 17km from marysville place.

Feel free to pass this message around to friends.

The trails are really fun. They're more technical than the ones at the tree farm or Woolastook, with some cool features like rock bridges, and a fair bit of climbing and descending.

I wanted to relate to you that this past weekend, I took my daughter, Jacqueline up to Carleton University to start Engineering. I always look forward to visiting Ottawa to visit with my cousin Murray, as avid a cyclist as you are ever going to meet. With a busy schedule devoted to Jacqueline, I decided to take my bike with me in case there was time to go on a ride with Murray on Sunday morning. Indeed, to make it happen, we got up just before 6:00 a.m. and we were on the road at 6:30 (sunrise was 6:21). We left his house beside the Rideau Canal and headed towards Ottawa, passing the Parliament Buildings and the National Gallery on the way to crossing the Ottawa River to Hull and then onto the Gatineau Parkway. Naturally, at 6:30 in the morning there are very few cars but the exceptional beauty of all of this is that in Ottawa, on Sunday, many of the roads are closed to cars. The entire Gatineau Parkway was closed to cars. I think a car only passed us after over one hour of cycling when we were on our way home! This Parkway is a National park and the roads do not really lead anywhere. They are smooth, undulating up and down. There are lookouts to Ottawa and a road along Meech Lake. At the far end of Meech Lake, you have to turn around at the RCMP gate to the Prime Minister’s summer residence since entrance is restricted. The weather was perfect, very little wind, warm, sunny, beautiful views of Ottawa, Meech Lake, smooth roads, up, down, turning, zero cars, only other bikers and the occasional person on roller blades or XC skier on roller skis. Even the shoulder of the road was exceptional since it is not gravel but grass. So, if you did fall all you would get is grass stains on your shorts! Naturally I was thrilled to have taken my bike on the roof all the way to Ottawa for this most wonderful bike ride. One of the best of the summer! Murray and I rode 96 kilometres side by side, chatting the entire way in 3 1/2 hours. We were even home by the appointed time of 10:00 to have a second breakfast of Peach French Toast and get on with the rest of our day. The entire point of this Blog entry is to encourage you to take your bike to Ottawa if you go and cycle the Gatineau Parkway, it will be worth it you will see! I will certainly be taking mine anytime I visit Jacqueline in the next four years. (XC during the winter is as exceptional as the biking in the summer so bring your skis if it is during the winter since the road is not ploughed but groomed for XC). You can click on this URL for some more information:

Tour de Vin

I spoke with Mike Davis about the Tour de Vin to clear up some questions people had. It is on September 20 and starts at the Ramada. The route is 80 km, flat, and scenic.

http://www.mapmyride.com/route/ca/nb/fredericton/801988210336

Each rider will be given a "passport" at the start of the ride. There will be 3 stops along the way and one at the end where the riders visit a different "country" and have a sample of the wine from that country with a compatible cheese. The ride is intended to be slow, relaxed, and fun and to be a celebration of cycling.

Hello all. Wow... what's goin on!?

Stephen Dixon said...

Well... hmmm... I've been out of the loop for a while and I see a few of the Team OSB are still into drama ;-)

I must say, I have a a HUGE respect and appreciation for TURBO who is doing a grand and Thankless job. In addition to his regular life, he maintains the blog (believe me I know it is a lot of nit picky time), he organizes (on behalf of Team OSB) the community minded "Write and Ride" promotion. TURBO also provides to any Team OSB (and others) the very generous Ride N Ribs event every year. Thank you Turbo!

Unfortunately most of the rewards for all this selfless and tireless work, are to receive complaints and whining and bitching.

TURBO... I would just like to take this time to say thank you... for everything!

You know, Team OSB... it's not so complicated... just ride your bike... smile... and have fun. Like my mom used to say... if you don't have somethin nice to say... just say nothing :-)

PS - From day 1 (when I created it), there was one rule... no anonymous postings. If you have something to say... have the guts to put you name beside it. Thanks Turbo for keeping that one simple rule.

Smile... ride your bike :-)

Cabot Trail 2008 was an adventure. I had a date with the Trail and it didn't disappoint. The weather was BAD at times, with visibility very poor in the fog, making descents tricky. I was happy to revisit the climbs. Felt my legs tire with a 25 on the back, especially after not doing much climbing in August, but didn't have to get off to walk. Unfortunately, the views were poor in the fog, so not many photos. Rode with folks from all over Canada, some from US. Buffet dinner with live band at Keltic Lodge was a highlight. Tested out my new tent (kept me- and yes, my bike- dry in a thunderstorm). Third year in a row - hoping to make it four next year.
