Fogerty was beyond description. Eagles were great; Walsh was a hit. the others were ok. Fogerty (essentially CCR) was really amazing.

A fun weekend in Moncton this weekend. Thanks to Sheila and all the Mike's Bike shop guys for taking the time to organize it. The weather wasn't fantastic, but the rain did hold off and we managed to get some time in at the velodrome Saturday and Sunday. The road race in Memramcook was only 40km but there were tons of steep hills and was still challenging. I did a 10km warmup, the 40km race and then a bunch of us cruised back into Dieppe after the race for a cool down, so we got some decent total road miles in. Got to meet quite a few new people and even got attacked by a cougar (will explain sometime over beers). I have to say, the Velodrome is pretty cool. It's free to ride on after you have your track 101 and you have a VeloNB licence. They told me anytime I'm in town, I just need to call the center to let me in and they provide a bike and everything.

The participation #'s were down at this event like most others around the maritimes these days and I can definetly sense a discouraging feeling from alot of different race organizers. They won't continue to volunteer for these events if no one shows up, so hopefully next race I won't be the sole Fredericton rep. there. OSB and Radical Edge riders are definetly essential to keeping the sport alive in NB.

I can't take it any more of this sitting around. I'll be at the Y at 5:30, rain or shine, for a spin. Any takers?

Anonymous said...

Cookie,

I'm in, are you driving in or riding in? Let me know and maybe we can connect enroute.

Greg V said...

I'm in as well. See you at the Y.

Anonymous said...

Great to hear HARDCORE is alive and well, we have a dinner invite, but plan to post a ride tomorrow night, So don't break them all Cookie, just soften em for me.:-)

Cookie said...

Bubbles: I have to drop Sarah off on the way so I will be driving in. I'll bring my running gear as a back up if it is pouring.

Anonymous said...

Great, I'll bring my sneakers as well...

Who's going to tell Crampy that "Zoom" was rejected by the OSB Nick-Naming working group, based on Club Bylaw 2003-88-42A-2...."if a member annoints himself with a nickname, it is immediately disqualified and replaced with something decidedly far worse"

In this case, the working group, understanding that cramps were involved on multiple rides last week has rejected the aforementioned far too nice "Zoom" and replaced it with the more accurate "Crampy", which Mr. Violette is ordered to wear with pride on all rides and any other OSB public gatherings.

Anonymous said...

In light of the mis aproapreation of the nickmane edicate. Which was is direct conflict with the variance under the aformentioned Club by-law Mr. Greg Violette will now be known as MOOZ. Just hold up in mirror and you will see the meaning. Dear MOOZ please feel fortunate as there was pressure to anoint you with some less flattering Title's.
PS- Welcome to the Club, may you also get comnsumed in the Social Vacuum that is OSB.
MOOZ BACK

Anonymous said...

OK Mooz, given that you and I and Cookie had a name discussion tonight on the ride, let it be known that I have had nothing to do with the aforementioned email or discussion about names and I doubt Cookie did either since we were riding:) I do like MOOZ though, it oughta stick.

Wasn't me either!!

Let it be known that after 160 in 20-30+ cross and head wind, the last 40km in the rain, and after the lead which included myself and Bubbles went through the first 125km at 30+kph avg., I,Rat, under the health advisory from Dr.Bubbles, although not of the medical type, retired early from the biking for breakfast challenge this past Sat Aug2.Oh,as did Bubbles by the way. She was outstanding doing her share of the pulls. The prospect of another 120km directly into the headwind was not appealing.Money had already been raised for the very worthy cause so an early departure was not going to have an impact.

Look forward to a ride or 2 this week with the OSB family.

Oh, does anybody have any advise on how I should clean that red Island mud from my bike. Willit have any effect on the bearings and brackets?

Anonymous said...

Would someone please post a ride to get Zorro out today (Tuesday)? Man he's cranky and he *needs* a ride! :)

Anonymous said...

It was actually Cookie that suggested Crampy

Anonymous said...

Congrats Bubbles & Rat, that is great despite the headwind. Rat the guys in the TransAlp group would use some 'simple green' type of spray, on all dirty parts, brush it out with a tooth brush and then wash it out with a light water spray. I've since tried this and it works great. Makes your chain and cassette look like new.
Tuesday, also looking to go out tonight. Didn't Turbo say he would post a ride?

Anonymous said...

Tuesday Ride: Meet at Y at 5:30.
Walking bridge - Marysville - Penniac - Across Penniac Bridge - Rte.8 - Killarney Lake Road. Moderate pace so that everyone is OK for the Wednesday Tour de Carnage.

Anonymous said...

will be there for Tuesday ride. Couple of points.
Mooz is Great
Rat and Bubbles are Quittters
Rat and Bubbles are Quittters
Like that one won't come back and bite me!
Zorro probably needs some Waffles...
He knows what i'm talkng about.
see you tonight.

GD raining big, here now. I'm a game time decision.

Anonymous said...

Fall Winter Scheduele already? Was up with da Weather?

Off to the Y for Spin Class at 5:15 and then Cougar encounters at Group Power at 6:30

Then a glass of wine with Mrs.

Anonymous said...

Turbo...be afraid, be very afraid

Anonymous said...

Firebird,

I am a simple unfrozen caveman doctor and the reference to this "simple green type of spray" confuses me. Just what is this stuff and where can I get some?

Anonymous said...

Looking for some OSB members who do not WANT or NEED Wednesday Carnage ! Their must be a few of you who don't want to go up hills at 43kpm to 47kpm. If there is such an OBS member who would like to keep the speed Below 40kpm ,then please show up Wednesday and ride with King.Until then pray for Sun.

Anonymous said...

King I am one such OSB'er. See you at the y wednesday.

Anonymous said...

Yeah Rat, I said the same thing too, sorry. Simple green is a biodegradable cleaner, you can get it a Canadian Tire, its a green liquid (go figure). To my surprise they sell it by regular spray size, then large and very large container since its cleaning properties and safety cought on. Not expensive at all.

Anonymous said...

Turbo,

Just wondering if you were planning on bringing your sneakers with you on the Wednesday night ride so that we could have a little run at the end? Let me know, I'll bring mine.

Bubbles

Cookie said...

Uh-oh Turbo. I wouldn't want to be you right now. Did you skip out on us tonight so that you could rest up for your showdown with Dr. Bubbles on Wednesday night? Good idea.

It turned out to be a great night for a ride tonight with just me and Mitch in attendance.

Anonymous said...

I may have recruited a new member for '09. We now have an extra bike in the basement at our house. I had nothing to do with it, it was totally Erin's idea. I clocked her at 40km/h max tonight on rt 101. She's a hammerhead in the making :).

Anonymous said...

Hey Someone gotta tough'n up the girl. she going to the Big Apple soon. The usual confidence builder before she goes. Ironically i went for my first run in about 3 weeks last night. So... That would put me in top form right????

Anonymous said...

Rat;

LPS 2 (any auto value dealer) is one of the best cleaner/lubs for all moving parks on the bike. Spray it, wipe it off, then wash the bike, then lube as normal = good to go.

I'm in for Wed night. King, I will be with you.

Greg V said...

Mooz aka Crampy will be there tonight!! Looking forward to the remote possibility of a dry ride.

Anonymous said...

The best bike cleaner is Sysco oven and grill Cleaner.
Remember to wear a face mask and Heavy Duty rubber gloves when applying. Material Safety Data Sheets are supplied and as they recommend apply in a well ventilated area. GTD to remove. grease, dirt, paint, carbon fiber clear coat and skin from fingers.

Great ride tonight. OSB rocks.

Anonymous said...

we also, pant, puff, moan, groan, cramp and Mooz even whistles.

OSB group "B" Wednesday ride.
Nice that the turnout on Wednesday night was large, so that a "B" group could do the ride. This is why OSB is Da Best :)

PS Viewing the Carnage that unfolded from the "A" group ahead was something else. Whoever was dropped, and wore a Blue Jersey, must have a sore neck today from twisting their neck trying to see if the "B" group was about to swallow him up....New nick name perhaps? "Screw"

See ya Friday.

carpool heading to PEI first thing Saturday morning for an 84k fun road race. Ride is leaving Fred at 5am and should be back probably around 8-8:30pm. Let me know asap if anyone's interested.

Anonymous said...

Great Wed. night ride! No Doubt, could you perhaps explain your idea of a fun 84K race. I think your idea and mine might be slightly different.

Maybe the "man/woman in the blue jersey" wasn't an OSBer. I don't think we dropped anyone.

Turbo, I waited with my sneakers laced up at the Y...but, I guess you must have quit:)

Anonymous said...

Didn't quit went home to Wax my Skis.
*smile*
Off the Bathurst for the Weekend, Take care and ride save. Especially when on your bike...

Anonymous said...

Haha, well bubbles what I mean by a fun race is that it's still a competitive race, but it's mostly locals that show up and it's not as intense as an NB or NS race. It's a nice break from the 3hr sufferfests that we have for races around here, but these last 2 PEI races are also the last 2 road races I know of in the Maritimes this year.

Is that the 84km event mentioned?

Killerb09 said...

AND.

does anyone MTB bike anymore?

Mel said...

I'd like to ride into F'ton from work in Oromocto via the north side of the river and join the Friday night ride. Please ride the posted ride and if there are any deviations call me @ 461-6943 See you on the road

Anonymous said...

That's the PEI race. I may start MTB again if I end up buying Norm's fork.

Anonymous said...

No doubt: I wish I could ride the Woolybear classic at Woolastook on the 17th. You should try a normal mountain bike race (other than 80km), and we have to support the local races or there wont be any local races.
I'll have to settle for helping again this year. Bev is looking for more volunteers if anyone else can help. I'm counting days until my surgery and weeks till I can ride again.

Anonymous said...

Sudsey: Touche. I have a bachelor party or I'd be there volunteering at least :).

Anonymous said...

Regular Team OSB Friday night ride. Team Evil - King + Smoothie + Zoro = Priceless Ride. Rode the posted ride at a Good pace, we all stayed together, good beers, food and banter back at Ringo's; we even picked up the King back at Ringos.

Anonymous said...

Cookie showed up for beer too.

Anonymous said...

Hey KillerB09, some of us like to get dirty. I'm on the DL, Rocket is learning (fast), Cookie can rock the singletrack, Coach doesn't actually ride on the trail but his bike floats right over it as if it doesn't like touching the dirt, Dr J sky-hooks over obstacles (and sometimes his handlebars) and I've heard tell of others.
It's kind of like "Field of dreams": if you plan it, they will come.

Boyz;

Do we wait til 9 ?

Cookie said...

I'm planning on a MTB ride at Woolastook at 5:00 if the weather is OK. Any takers?

Anonymous said...

I was at the Y for 8am and no one showed. It was a nice warm morning.I went for coffee then for a walk. It's time to get thinks done ,have a good weekend Boy'z.

Anonymous said...

Sunday Morning ride; anyone interested? Let me know via post. 9 AM departure rom Y. 1.5 to 2.5 hrs ride Tempo pace once warmed up.

Mel said...

Pinky,
You can count on seeing me tomorrow morning at nine. Anyone else?

Cookie said...

How about on Sunday morning we do the ride posted for Saturday ie. Durham Bridge - Killarney - Frank's Diner for breakfast? Nice civilized pace with no redlining. 9:00 departure is OK with me.

Anonymous said...

Sunday morning at 9 from the Y it is. Smoothie, Cookie and I so far. Come and join us: like Cookie said "nice civilized pace with no redlining", if you can control yourself?
