For Dish, Rat and all you other pain monkeys....

Excerpt from an interview with Jens Voigt:"Sometimes you can hear your body start talking to you ... 'Oh, I can't do it anymore, I can't do it anymore,' and your mind goes 'shut up body and do what I tell you' and your body is almost like ... revolting against you and saying 'I can't do it, leave me alone, I can't do it, I want to pull over now,' and the mind goes, and the brain goes 'no, no, no, you keep going, you keep going because I want you to do what I tell you to do' and you know, your lungs are burning and you have the little taste of blood in your mouth and your legs are burning, and they don't want to turn around anymore and you know if someone now attacks you will be blown out of the water but you go 'no, I just keep going' and you just keep going and ... you make it happen.""I get paid to hurt other people. How good is that? How good is that? I get paid to make other people suffer on my wheel, that's good."

Ditto on the ride, nice cool water bottles and drippy nose. Welcome to Steve Stafford, the beginnings of another strong rider. Hmmm... Donut taken?

I drove down to Hattfield Point today and biked along the Kingston Peninsula and down to Evandale. What a gorgeous, but windy, ride. I wanted to join the morning riders, but I wimped out. It was too cold!!!

Hope to see OSB before I store the bike for the year.

Interesting, today was not an ideal day for cycling. 0 degrees this morning with what looked like ice on the road. This evening, cycling home, 4 degrees and 40K winds right in your face! Just the same, Donut came with me to commute to work, thanks, great to have company. On the way home, I normally don't see any cyclists (maybe one) unless it is an OSB group ride. Tonight, I saw Duncan Young out for a ride, then another dude on a whit CERVELO, cool. Shortly after another cyclist going out to Oromocto on a Cannondale (he was riding in shorts!) that makes three riders. Then, near my home I spot a touring cyclist with a rack and a pannier on his bike. So, one of the coldest, windiest days of the year and more than the normal amount of cyclists are out there getting some exercise just like it would be July, go figure! See you on the road!

Herc said...

Will anyone be riding tomorrow?

zorro said...

Iam interested in morning ride.
How does 10am for 60k from SS sound?
Post if interested.

Turbo said...

I'm game for Sat 10am , ride! if weather and persisant cough are wiling

Herc said...

No Doubt said...

Mind if I join? My fitness is crap these days, so take it easy on me.

Pebbles said...

Sounds good to me. See you all tomorrow.

zorro said...

You are welcome any time, No Doubt. It will be good to see you.

Herc said...

Have fun guys. I am going to have to ride in the afternoon. I had thought Monica's swim meet started earlier but it starts at 10am and will be about 1.5hrs. Enjoy the morning. I'll go by myself,,,just won't be the same. Please try not to miss hauling my sorry butt up those hills

Turbo said...

My medical conditon (flu like) isn't the best. So going to pass on the ride. Have fun.

No Doubt said...

Hey sorry if I missed you guys. Ran a few minutes late. I gotta reset my clock from Rad Edge time to OSB time :). Just did the Quac loop.

Mel said...

Does anyone have any plans for tomorrow? Noonish? Weather looks like it will cooperate.

Mel said...

My son Phillip is playing soccer at 1:00, so I will be leaving on the road by 11:00, anyone interested?

zorro said...

Sorry we missed you No Doubt, Zorro and Pebbles did the Burton Loop.

Mel said...

Does anyone want to keep me company and ride with me to Oromocto tomorrow late morning? Get in touch...

Donut said...

Sorry Smoothie, I'm on my nights right now so I'm out, but if the weather is clear on Friday I'll be there..

rat said...

Hey Smoothy,

Iam on days this week but like Donut I am free for a Friday am ride weather pending.
Wish I was off as I look out from the windows of the ER, it looks like a glorious day for a ride.

Laszlo said...

Hey Smoothy,
What time are you leaving? Or maybe you allready left. Would be nice to shake a leg after five weeks. :o)

Mel said...

Lazlo:
There is still time, call my cell at 461-6943 if you can leave in the next half hour, it is 10:30 right now.

Marlene said...

Laszlo...welcome back! Am off this weekend, perhaps we can get a ride in.

Mel said...

Lazlo: Great to ride with you today, welcome back to F'ton and what is left of the cycling season. Does anyone want to ride tomorrow a.m.?

Laszlo said...

It is good to be back! Clean air, little traffic on the roads and good friends to ride with. Nothing in Europe could beat that. Maybe one day riding with good friends in Europe could?
Smoothie, thanks for helping me to warm up them rusty legs.
Marlene, I would love to ride on the weekend. Just leave the firearms in the locker!

Mel said...

Rat:
Thanks for swinging by the office and riding with me back home. It was great to have someone to break the wind for me into today's strong headwind. Fellow OSB's should know that to come and get me at 5:00 p.m. in Oromocto, Rat took the long way via Mactaquac dam, back to F'ton via north side, Maugerville, Burton Bridge and THEN home! Total, 110K's, way to go Rat! Be sure to check the weather for Friday, could be messy!
Smoothie

Rat said...

Hey Smoothy,
your welcome, and I had the time yesterday.

Now the big news, My new ride is in at the Edge! plan to pick it up tomorrow.

Mel said...

Rat:
You'll want to ride lots now! Roads could be too icy in the morning to commute, I will take a look at 7:00. Should I call you if I'm cycling? Let me know when I can see the new bike!

Rat said...

Well I am just leaving work and there is alot of snow on the ground so a commute looks unlikely at least to work. The roads will be wet and icy at 0700 so I will sleep in. But weather permitting perhaps from work.

Cookie said...

Rat: A new ride????? What did you get.

Is it just me, or does anyone else get excited even when someone else gets a new bike?

Donut said...

Morning Smoothie, looks too icy for a commute today, just have to get out another time. Rat, looking forward to seeing the new ride..

Donut said...

Myself, Steve Stafford and Rat are planning to head out for a ride this afternoon,(Quac Loop). Going to swing by the SS at 4 PM then meet up with Rat at the Tim Hortons on Woodstock Rd. Blog if your interested, or just be at the SS by 4..

Laszlo said...

I am up for an easy ride today. Where would you like to start?

Hey Smoothy,

Fantastic ride back with Laszlo. How was your return ride. It was quite a commute with 3 half century riders. I got to thinking are we metric or standard half- centurions?
I'll be at your place by 0730 to leave as soon as possible after.

Donut said...

Hey Smoothie and Rat,

I'm hoping to get off work a little early, if so I plan to join ya's for the commute. If I'm not at your house Mel by 0735, head out with out me as something must have came up.. Do my best!!!

Had a great ride today. I am closing in on a magic mark for total distance for the season so am motivated to keep riding.

Mel said...

One last commute for the year. After this weekend with the time change it will be too dark coming home (not to mention getting colder). I am also at a "magic mark", my RS turned 4000k's today and the Super Prodigy is close to that. If anyone else is interested, tomorrow is your last chance to commute to Oromocto!
Rat, see you tomorrow morning!

Pebbles said...

Anyone interested in riding Saturday morning at 9am? Post if interested.
