Rat;
I will be commuting tomorrow morning. I will look for you at the McLean's Store but will wait for you at the Irving unless I hear from you by phone or email before I leave. Thanks for the Smooth compliment (I think?) See you in the morning.

Hi all,

This is not just another Rat rant so please read.

Left Smmothy in Oromocto and headed out for a ride home via the Gornish and New Maryland Hwy.
There is major road work from the turn off to Charters settlement out past Phillips Rd so that route is out of commision for a week or two.

Butt more importantly, I had yet another close encounter with trucks. I just got on the 101 from Whittaker a nice long stretch good visibility both directions. Coming from the opposite direction, a big logging truck, from behind i could hear another and it appearred they would pass each other and me at the same time. The truck from behind didn't slow an as hiss front end came along side me I knew there wasn't enuff room so went off the dropped and grvel shoulder safely. This is the 3rd time this year but the truck was readily identifiable by clor and signage. So after my ride a reported this the RCMP as well as calling the company to express my concern of the potential for a bad outcome for one of the 3 vehicles. The RCMP were very supportive and took my concerns seriously and called the company and reminded that business of the rules for safe driving and sharing the road and the Motor Vehicle Act and our right to be on the road and passing with care, slow down and wait as they would aany other slow moving vehicle.
So a long story but I had read that if we all report such unsafe pracises of passing cars and trucks, there may be repeat offenders that threaten us with poor driving, one may get caught or the business may get more than a call from the police.

Also we should all be careful and attentive and ride not side by side unless there is a big shoulder or remote ride

Good job on calling that one in Rat. Way too many of us would just grumble and not do anything about it.

Is there a commute Friday morning? I may be interested.

I am trying to plan my 90km ride for Saturday. What time will you all be leaving and what do you think the route will be? I don't expect anyone to go that long, but even if I could tag along for a bit would be nice. I have to get off and run as hard as I can for 5km and then next day run 21km Resting up for Saturday,,,Ally

Rat, holy cow. Glad you are ok. I would have been in the ditch I'm sure. Glad you called it in. I had a big shoulder coming back from Kings Landing last Saturday and a driver still laid on his horn. Good for you for calling.

Mel said...

Yes, there is a commute Friday morning, join us, Rat is in too.

I use my little mirror to see if there is traffic behind when a truck is coming towards me. I have had to go to the shoulder once this summer. Be careful out there.

No Doubt said...

Ok, I'm in. Ramada 7:45am. Hope there's coffee too... sour grape?

Rat:

Glad to hear that you are fine. Great job on calling the RCMP.

I have been biking the back roads (with no shoulder) of southern Ontario, mostly farming communities, this past week and the vehicules have been great. They are used to staying behind slow moving vehicules which makes drivers more alert to cyclist.

Well,

For the first time all year a chance to ride with my protege. (is it Smoothy or No Doubt :) )
and I can't make it. The Austrian kids are flying otu at noon and not 5pm as previously thought, so tomorrow am will be busy especially as Bubbles has to go to Moncton at 0660 so it is all up to me to make sure all is in order.
Welll it was going to rain anyways.

Well, my work life is throwing big wrenches into my riding but had a great ride tonight with Ally and Rat. We did the Burton loop (did you know that includes Marysville, yup, just ask Rat). We are away in Fundy this weekend but back next week. I'll be at Jazz's next week.

Ally said...

Zorro, that is great. I'll be there at 8am. Flexible on a route as well. could go up to Kingslanding. doesn't matter to me. Jazz thanks for the invite next week. As far as I know I'll be there. Good way to kick off my 2weeks vacation.

Hey Turbo - does Da Missus want to get out for a ride this weekend?

I'm thinking of an easy ride Saturday while the hardcore riders are out. Zorro & I are riding Sunday AM also if you both would like to join us. The last couple's ride was a blast.

Gotta love this weather!

No Doubt said...

Sunday morning couple's ride? What was the pace last time. Just wondering if Erin could keep up

Mrs. Zorro said...

The gals did their best to not let any of the guys get dropped...

It was a very gentle pace...mid-twenties I think and we did Burton/Waasis so not too hilly.

So I left the office in Oromocto today, Friday around 5. One look towards F'ton revealed a wall of dark clouds. I made it to within 10 K's of home, the wind picked up huge then rain. I ducked under a shelter at someone's home and called my son Phillip with the "Team Car". Good call in cancelling tonight's ride, too bad.

Homemade chicken pizza and a cold Irish red beer later and a sleep on the deck in the sun and I am feeling great. thanks so much you guys. You made the 90km very enjoyable. Laszlo thanks for riding the remaining miles with me. I found those last 4km hard going against the wind again. My 5km run was great 26min. Not a great time but I'll take it after 90km ride & last bit of run up Kimble. as always thank you for pushing beyond what I think I am capable of riding. And Firebird your tips are great. thanks again, Enjoy the day!!

Cody's flight was cancelled, for today (mechanical) and they are re-booked for sunday morning. So we can only make it for a 10 Am ride. If that doesn't work for other that's fine. Will check the blog in the morning and go to SS for 10 am if others are game for that time change. If not hope to see you folks soon.

Mrs. Zorro said...

Zorro & I will meet the Turbosers at SS at 10:00.

I never turn down an opportunity for a bit more of a sleep in and perhaps we will even have waffles...for breakfast...

Cookie said...

I'll join you guys at 10:00 as well. Can somebody find me a "wife" for the ride? I promise to take better care of them than I did for Bubbles and Marlene last time.

jazz said...

Cookie - Mrs Jazz was free. She rode 60km to Douglas Hbr for her longest ride of the year today. Getting ready to ride with us on Friday night.

Turbo said...

SSR Sunday Spousal Ride. Yet another Adventure. Firstly Cookie found a Mate.
Secondly Judge Judy has heard closing arguments and we await her verdict. For the record Girls did the the Ridge and Kee Road.
All is well in Zorro and Turbo Ville.

Bubbles said...

Do you think with a name like "Bubbles" I'm gonna vote to change Donut's name. I don't think so....

Glad to hear everyone had a good riding weekend. Looking forward to getting out this week.

Mrs. Zorro said...

Evidently the girls were going so fast the boys couldn't catch up with them after Turbo had a flat...

Mrs. Turbo & I had a great ride on our own...on the route the guys agreed upon but then didn't think us wimmin could figure out on our own!

Next ride I choose Lazlo as the only reliable one out of the lot!

Hey Bubbles - when did you start driving big logging trucks? And how did you miss Rat?
