I want to be the first to direct you to this most humorous article from Pez Cycle which was posted today. We should live by these rules, if not all of them at least some of them!! LOL.

Nore what the Pez article says about hammering on a Friday night social ride. :)

Anonymous said...

Can I make a suggestion for tonights ride? Thanks.

Coming back via Kingsley is mainly downhill and the road is in awful shape so makes a quick paceline unsafe. Now coming back on the Royal Road can be a screamer as the road is in great shape. We,ie,Smoothy,Firebird, and myself came back that way and the ride was fast and sweet!

The other reason for reversing the direction is the traffic will be heavier going out the Royal Road than going out the Kingsley. The traffic is better on coming home via the RR.

Some thoughts but majority rules!

Sounds good to me Rat !

Sweet gawd almighty, that was a wicked and hurtful ride last night - well done Week of KING/Summer of TANK! ;-)..kudos to brother cookie for 20 mins of trading painful fun at the top of Kingsley, and to brother rat for being the trailing hammer that kept cookie and I "motivated". King, Tank, Zorro and No Show brought on the hurtin' from start to finish. Awesome night..just wish I hadnt had Fred Flintstone-like "wah-wah" legs until 2AM!

WHAT IS START TIME FOR SATURDAY RIDE

Anonymous said...

not to poach anyone else ride but i'm planning to go out early 7-730. will spin by Y probably do the posted route.

Anonymous said...

Saturday Ride start 9 AM ?

Anonymous said...

Do we have a consensus on Sat starttime?

800 or 830 or 900.

How long is the loop as that may determine when people want to leave?

Anonymous said...

Turbo, 'If it is not raining', call me when you leave home....I have to be back home early, so should ride early. I can meet you at the end of the walking bridge. 450-3733

Anonymous said...

7-7:30am start time suits me too I guess. Turbo, can you call me as well with a departure time and I'll meet up with you guys somewheres? I'll set my alarm for 6:30am... i guess.... ugh. 472-0563. There had better be breakfast somewhere along this ride!

Anonymous said...

Is this ride initiated by Turbo a rogue ride or is there a plan to meet or go by the Y to pick up someone ie me who would be there for 0800?

Anonymous said...

Ponder, Ponder, Ponder,
I will be at the Y for 0730, walking bridge 0740. will do the ride posted by King (tour de dog loop)optional.
PS- i'm not riding hard, did that last night :-)

Anonymous said...

Oh common... hammerfest! Just kidding. I'll be at the Y for 7:30.

Anonymous said...

Is anyone riding at 9 am ?

Mike Richard said...

King C U at 9:00 and I would guess Tank as he posted that time, back before noon

Anonymous said...

Mike Richard said...

Sorry King, got to back out for Saturday, my plans were changed for me, apparently I am pulling my weight around the house and leaving for three days so better keep the peace.

Anonymous said...

Scar those things happen ! To bad ! I have to paint this afternoon after the ride so I know where you are coming from ! Any beers in the late afternoon on the list ?

Anonymous said...

Not sure what time this motley group will ride Saturday....I'm leaving at 9 am.
I counted 4 OSB Saturday Group rides?!?! Total of 6 riders.

Anonymous said...

Tank I will be there for 9 am

Anonymous said...

0730 ride went according to plan. No doubt and the old guys Smoothie, Firebird and Turbo. Excellent pace. Hope the other 3 rides go as well.

Did 112km, The Dam-Burton Bridge Loop, by myself. Worked until 1230 last night and was pushing just to be at the Y for 0800. No point being in the wilderness on the TdeD, by oneself. 2nd Saturday in 3weeks by myself, from the Y. Seems Saturday rides are a thing of the past as far as any plans, as the blog seemed to have posted times from noon Friady up until 0730 Saturday.
Will wait and see how things go next week.

Interesting point Mr. Rat: "Saturday Rides are a thing of the past".

My 2 cents:

Saturday rides are not a thing of the past but are reflecting something new and different from the old OSB Saturday ride model. Change happens. If we actually look at how many are riding vs past years, there are actually more riders, however, with various schedules which therefore result in different riding times.

Posted OSB group rides on Saturday, or on either Saturday or Sunday are a gamble due to the facts that we are a large dynamic group with different schedules, abilities, and riding requirements(fast, slow, tough, easy, hills, no hills, long, short, busy, less busy, skilled, less skilled).

Take it in any form it comes in. I guess this means there is lots to pick from (good or bad).

I haven't gone on a Saturday ride in 6 weeks; reason - the old OSB Saturday ride model is broken!:( I love(d) that model.

That model: One ride, one ride time departure, agreed to route, a long med. pace/tempo ride, breakfast social on the ride.

What I would like to see.
A re-focus of our Saturday ride model to:

One ride: This means:
1. One route
2. One departure time
3. Long distance tempo pace
4. Breakfast break during ride

Remember when we used to leave the Y early on Saturday to get home early? Plus, I love breakfast on the road!! My 2 cents worth. How was Frank's for breakfast? That would work!

Anonymous said...

I vote for a 0730 or 0800 am start. It's more fun if we are all together. I find 0730 early but given my accommodating nature I could get up early. Hopefully it will get HOT soon and we will want to start early to avoid the heat AND get back to our families AND I like eating on the way AND my PhD defence is on Monday so after that, I can ride whenever I want...guilt free.

Anonymous said...

Seeing as Sunday morning is my alloted time to ride on the weekends I'll stay out of the Saturday debate. That being said if the rain holds off I'll be heading out to ride for 2 hours starting at 8:30 AM. If anyone is interested blog back or call 472-6603 and we can meet at the Y.

Most of you may know that Firebird and I are leaving Wednesday to participate in the Jeantex Transalp Tour. This is a seven day stage “race” from Germany to Italy across the Alps. I initially heard about this event in an article I read in 2006 from Pez Cycle. I’ve wanted to go since then. If you read it, you’ll want to do it too!
Go to: http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/default.asp?pg=fullstory&id=4256
Normally, it runs in June and I thought I could not attend this year due to my daughter Jacqueline’s high school graduation. However, due to EuroSoccer 2008, it has been delayed by two weeks this year, perfect. I searched out a Canadian group that has been going and Jean Guy and I have joined them, perfect. Go to: http://www.magicplaces.ca/transalp.htm to read about them. The tour itself has it’s own website, including a “book” on the right hand side where you can see pictures of last year’s tour.
Click on: http://www.tourtransalp.de/englisch/
and check it out for yourself. Plus, I think that you can check the results as the tour goes on day to day. Look for “Team OSB” in the results of “Grand Master” category where the combined ages are over 100!! It would be a great motivator for me and Jean Guy to know that OSB members are watching us. Our goal is not just to finish but to finish in style (not necessarily the fastest time) we want to be Eurocool! See you on the road!

Hey thanks everyone for your encouragement over the last few weeks. I feel that my riding and fitness is getting better - with your help! One day I will not be the last one up Dope Mountain (or Carriage Hill, or the Wall or, or...)

Good luck Mel and Jean-Guy - we will be watching, cheering, and drinking for you. Next week - Ringo's or Bust!

Anonymous said...

Yes, good luck to Smoothie and Firebird, you are both, most definately, Eurocool:)

Thanks for the follow-up, after our discussion Mel. I've post it to the side-bar for our quick reference. We can search by team. Is it Team OSB?

Hey Bubbles we haven't forgotten about you. Best of luck tomorrow, what's the Time/Room i'm off all week and can go cheer you on. Seriously Please let me know.

NO Show- The group is a better with you.

Sat/Sun- Better judgement tells me to stay out of it. So here i go.
0800 is a reasonable. But i'm an early riser and assure you nothing better than early morning on a nice summer day. Our ride yesterday was a aerobic pace for me and we went to Frank's after for breakfast caught up on each other lives and during the 2km back to the Y i felt like a 10 yr old kid leaving the candy store with my buddies off for the next dayz adventure. Not often this 46 yr old can free his mind and soul from the real world.
Some people will think i'm crazy, other's will know exactly what i'm talking about! Pick your outlook.
cheers.

Personally, I'd just like to be able to ride! Damn rain.
Pinky, I did see Grace Potter in Maine on Friday night - HOT!
Bubbles - good luck tomorrow..big day!! We'll be pulling for you!!

Who's up for an early canada day ride?? Anyone?

Anonymous said...

Capital City Road Runners; since 1983 two club runs a week, Wednesday at 5:30 and Saturday at 8:30 am, both runs leave from UNB Gym. Been this way for 25 years. People do not post alternate runs on club site on official club run days. What a great example of a formula for success. If we post alternate times that fit our personal schedules then this defeats the purpose of the official club ride and the club becomes fractured. Decide on the best time for our official rides and stick to it. Stop posting competing ride times that fit your personal schedule, it's not complicated. My two cents.

Cheers

p.s. Does my heart well to see No Show's improvement, stay with us lad.

I didn't post the Saturday stuff to create conflict but in fact to get us all back together. I think this may work from the comments that I've seen (Bubbles, Mel, Scar(very good point about the Road Runners), and Turbo's recent ride and great breakfast at Franks(doesn't Tank take care of that place!).

Once per week: Saturday or Sunday - whatever works best for the majority we have one POSTED ride. This does not mean that other rides take place - they always will but perhaps they should not be posted.

Nils = nice to see you with us so often. Bubbles = best of luck but you won't need it from what I've heard!

I am glad we are discussing this. I like Pinky's comments. Mine to follow I think are in the same vein.

I like to get going in the morning. It's great to have a ride over early and still have lots of the day left. I also realize that on a weekend, people want to get back to family and/or chores. The Sat rides with a breakfast are the best. They don't always have to be >100km, People can do more at the end if they like.

I think we need a standard starting time for the Sat ride like we do for the week day rides. If you can't make the ride that is just the way it is. God knows with my shift work I miss most of the rides. Jockeying the night before with times to get the most company for your own individual choice of ride.It is easier to plan and have something to look forward to.

I think the start time from the Y for the summer should be 0730. Some have to ride or drive to the Y which means leaving from home to be at the Y on time to ride has to be no later than 0715. Sooooo, in essence we are starting our ride at almost 0700. At least you know the start time and can make plans without having to get up at 0600 to check the blog to see if there has been a change. Those that want to start riding earlier can perhaps swing by the Y to get the rest of the group and can always bail out 1/2 half hour early. Those that can only ride later can blog to see if there are similar late riders.
If the group wants the start can be 0700.
Another option is for the ride master of the week to have the option to start the ride from their place. Of course that comes with the understanding of providing coffee apres ride.LOL

So here is to no more lonely Sat rides.

I agree with what everybody has said.

What time are we biking or has this turned into a Master Debaters club?!?!
