It is snowing out and Marisa and I are heading for Florida (really). This note is to let any potential commuters that commuting is suspended for a week and will resume on May 8th. See you then!
The 3rd Annual Wheels for Meals Bikeathon Fundraiser is scheduled for Saturday, June 2 in Officers Square in downtown Fredericton (rain date June 3)
Meals on Wheels is a non-profit organization that provides home delivery of healthy meals to seniors, disabled individuals and others who are not able to prepare meals for themselves to enable them to remain healthy and independent in their homes.
In order to provide this nutrition support service, we rely on the financial support and volunteer assistance we receive from the local community. As well, since many of our clients are on limited, fixed incomes and cannot afford the increasing cost of a healthy meal, we fundraise to subsidize the cost of our meals to ensure they remain affordable for those who need them.
We wanted a fundraising event that would be fun and inclusive, and decided to host a bikeathon because: - Cycling is healthy. - Cycling is an all-ages activity. - It seemed like a good fit for Meals on Wheels.
What happens on the day: The event is intended for children, adults, seniors, families and serious cyclists. Pledge forms are issued for participants to raise funds from friends and family, and there are 6 cycling routes for various levels of cycling experience and ability.
This year we have selected four routes on the bike trails of 5, 10, 25 and 50 k. These routes are organized and monitored by the Fredericton Trails Coalition and Folks on Spokes, a local cycling group. We have also selected two road routes of 50 and 100 k for those with advanced cycling experience.
Community businesses have donated a variety of great prizes for the occasion; for the Silent Auction, for door prizes, and a special prize for the person who raises the most funds. There will also be a decorating station for anyone who feels inclined to join in the fun and fancy up their wheels for the decorated bike contest.
For pledge forms, call 458-9482, or email us at info@frederictonmealsonwheels.ca. Website: www.frederictonmealsonwheels.ca Facebook: bikeathon fundraiser
Participation fee (donation or pledges): Single - $25 Family - $40

Nice to ride with OSB tonight! I'll see some of you for the commute tomorrow a.m.
Did you know that the Giro is being broadcast on RDS in French? On my Aliant cable I think it is channel 464.
