Cycling in March, who would have guessed? Tomorrow, April 1st, is my 57th birthday (this is not an April Fools joke!). I am sponsoring a 57 K Birthday ride leaving from my place at 2:00. All participants and friends of cyclists are invited for cake just after 4:00. See you at 2:00!

FYI,,,,Paris Roubaix runs this Sunday and is on RDS TV (likely in French) On my TV (Aliant) it is channel 464. I'm taping it or if you want to come over and watch the last hour, around 10:30 to 11:30. The forecast here sucks so we will likely not be riding anyway.

Joern H. said...

That sounds good. I don't have TV at home, so I'm glad to come over on Sunday. See you at 1 pm at the SS.

Turbo said...

i can only get out at 2:15, leaving from home doing hanwell, to mazz, into Mac across dam, up ridge and down tripp to BC and back into town. Anyone interested can call or me up along the way. cheers,

Leah Levac announces candidacy for Ward 10

By STEPHEN LLEWELLYN

Leah Levac has announced she’s running as a candidate to represent Ward 10, the Sunshine Gardens/West End region, on Fredericton City Council in the May 14 municipal election.

In a release, Levac said she supports healthy neighbourhoods, affordable living and engaged communities.

“When I moved to Fredericton, I chose Ward 10 as my home because of its diversity, its beauty, its affordability, and its potential,” said the Saunders Street resident in a news release.

“The neighbourhoods in our ward are diverse and vibrant places.

“The residents of Ward 10 have been welcoming and generous to me; it’s time to give back by serving them.”

Originally from Kingston, Ont., Levac has lived in Fredericton for almost 10 years.

She works as a program developer and instructor at the University of New Brunswick’s Renaissance College and holds a PhD in education, leadership and social policy.

She also works with a national research team studying the impact of economic restructuring on women in northern communities.

Levac is known as a community-minded individual. She’s an advocate for youth engagement and social justice.

Through her work with Youth in Transition, CISV, Equal Voice New Brunswick, and many other organizations, she has professional relationships with community organizations, local businesses, and the provincial government.

Levac is co-founder of 21inc, which focuses on the importance of innovation, the nature of successful leadership, and the value of involving young leaders in all roles in society.

She’s also a dedicated athlete and has competed in triathlons and road races in Canada and the U.S., and is training for her first Ironwoman in Louisville, Ky. in August.

She said she’s committed to making sure residents of all ages and experiences have the opportunity to get involved in the election campaign. She will host four community conversations throughout Ward 10 to share what she’s been learning on the campaign trail, and to hear more ideas, concerns, and solutions.

The first two are scheduled for: Sunday, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Nirvana, 207 Queen St. and Sunday, April 22 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at O’Dell Park Lodge.

Levac is encouraging all Ward 10 residents join the community conversations in person and virtually through her Facebook page, Twitter feed and website.
