Count me in, anyway you could make it for 1:30 on Tuesday instead of 1:15.. I'm working a lil OT that day until 1:00.. If so, I'll bring everything to work with me and meet you at the SS..
Rat/Donut and anyone else around: We'll do Tuesday 1:30 at SS. Rat could you decipher the prevailing, winds, taking into account the north facing snow melt from the suns, Marchalatitudal strength. Bearing in mind the geo-spacial and gradfitational pull.To eunsure we choose the best route possible.
For Pscyclepathic and all other interested bodies, the SS is the Stepping Stone centre at Odell park, across from the Y on Saunders street, right beside the lawn bowling green. Lots of detail, just my style.
Great Tuesday ride, Donut, Rat, Turbo and a special welcome to hsoJ. Mount Hope route is fine, some dirt on the way down. So much fun we'll give it another go tomorrow. Wednesday 1:30 SS. WW- Da Missus's is already asking about riding... Will keep you posted on the bike thing.
Herc and I out for a great ride tonight! We looked FAB in our new kits and our red bikes. We will be a force to be reckoned with this year....look out BOYZ (and Pebbles)
While you guys are planning your March rides, I am at Whistler volunteering at the Paralympics. I have been writing a page per day to keep my thoughts straight so I thought I would share one day with you. Here it is:
Saturday, March-13-10 Day 5 Today started early. Hard to believe that they asked us to be on the bus at 2:30 a.m. for a breakfast at the base and then load the gondola at 3:30 but that is exactly what I did with about 100 other race course volunteers. If it was work you would have to pay your employees time and a half to do it but to their credit, these volunteers did it cheerfully. Actually, it was pretty cool riding the gondola in the dark and then skiing down to Garbanzo chair with only the light from some industrial portable lighting that was set out for this purpose. However, the run down Franz’s to the downhill start was in the dark you had to be very careful but there were no moguls. I began my morning stomping out the powder between the two layers of B fencing. It was not exactly powder skiing but it was playing in the snow. We had to set some more B fencing then smooth some snow along the big A fence opposite our “compound W”. “Compound W” is our little camp behind the B fences in the section of the downhill track that we are responsible for. Our team leader, Sheila Walker, has it all laid out with a big bench carved out of the snow, wooden 2X4’s with foam pads to sit on. A Bar B Q to cook lunch on, a stash of wine and beer. Life is good, we offer things to the visiting coaches, gate keepers and medical men, they are all very happy to be stationed in our area. Things were looking pretty good. We had lots of time to prepare and inspection was only at 8:30. You already know we had an early start. It was beautiful to be on Whistler Mountain and have it change from pitch dark to daylight. Following inspection the standing men’s had their training run that they could not have the on Wednesday. They had their share of crashes. Some of them in our area. No one got hurt, so that was good. The actual race was scheduled to start at 11:30. Leading up to that time, we scrapped lots of loose snow from the track, it was looking good! We also had lunch, a big part of our day. However, the longer we went towards 11:30, the more the fog and weather moved in. It began to snow and the visibility decreased. We waited and waited. The start was delayed, 15 minutes, 30, 45, one hour. Sometimes it would look OK where we were but other areas were socked in. Too poor visibility for downhill racing. Eventually, by 2:30, the race was called off for the day. What a shame, everyone has put in tons of work. The athletes of course but also the two shifts of Cat drivers, who had been out all night (there are 5 to 8 cats working all of the time, some of them winch cats). The crew chiefs who were accompanying the cats all night, the volunteers (myself included) who spent from 3 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the hill hoping that it cleared up (it didn’t). There are also the lift operators, ski patrols, those who prepared breakfast, the bus drivers, and those who prepared us sandwiches (we did not need them at compound W due to the Bar B Q). We spent our time hanging around talking, eating, staying warm, preparing the track, etc., etc... Remarkably, nobody is too down about it. We did our work, we were ready. We still went to the Weasel House for beers. There is lots of camaraderie here. Tomorrow they will try to run a slalom and they should be successful. As for me, Harvey is coming up to ski with me. I have organized with my crew chief to swap my day off from Monday to Sunday so we can do this. I am really looking forward to seeing him again, it will be a highlight of my trip. Hopefully, they will get a race in and on Monday I will be on course again.
How about a posted 5:30 ride on Friday afternoon or 5:00 or 5:15 if we think that we'll run into a darkness issue?
Sorry I missed out on Sunday. Frackin' time change! First time that ever happened. Had a nice ride on my own but not as nice as if I'd been drafting from y'all!
Smoothy, sounds like you are doing a lot of important volunteer work. Without people like you the games wouldn't be a success! However, that is one long day.
I'm in for a Friday ride but can't go till 530 because of work.
Be careful in NC. Reliable reports from a friend in Greenville indicate that the Parkway has more snow this year than in the past. In particular he expects that the tunnels will have more ice.
Save Travels and Great biking to the Radical Crew. We'll be down to pick up the pieces on the 27th. and a climbing we will go. "Let the Good Times Roll" 8 more sleeps
For sure a ride at 530 from the stepping stone would be in order. How about the mactaquac loop with Rocky rd/Key rd diversion. makes it about 53k. There is still lots of light at 730pm so we can get it in.road is good all the way around.
I'm in for Friday nights ride as well, long as I got away from work a lil early I'll be there.... Rat I like your thoughts on the diversion to the route..
Stinky, give it up with the pace comments. You usually push it and WE know it (and like it). I like the route choice because the sun is setting at that time and if we are travelling up river then the visibility for cares is really bad between 630 and 7. That Rat...what a thinker.
Tracking me and Cookie down on the Kingsley Rd one night makes me think of Rat first and foremost as devilishly hard-core.
Remembered I have tickets to Thom Swift tonight at the Playhouse and the time is just a little too tight to ride as well...so, going to have to miss it.
If anyone is riding tomorrow afternoon - preferably 2-ish, please post it.
Sorry for not posting last night, just one thing trumps the blog... discuss was, 10:00 from Stepping Stone Route: woodstock road, up carriage hill, deerwood, hanwell across mazz, back in old hwy. All are welcomed
Looks to me like a 3:3 split for time today. Who makes the rules around here anyway!!! So, is everyone riding at 10 (Jazz/Cookie) or do you two want to go at 2 and I'll join you. I'll do either but don't want to miss the 10 o'clock if everyone is going then.
Turbo, you really should give yourself some time to recover!
Bubbles: I quote "Great ride tonight. Of course, Rat made it longer and harder than I planned" What's a person to Thunk! Thought it was another competetion!
Hey sorry I missed the ride but as you know only 1 thing trumps a ride. And by the Bubbles I didn't make the ride last night any longer it was what had been blogged - not only doesn't listen but obviously doesn't read either. Sorry about this but the washer is broken.:)
Great AM ride, Bubbles, Donut, Zorro, Turbo. combination of Social/Chatty, to Focus "stay on the wheel". Just like Gump said. OSB is like a box of chocolates. Plan to ride tomorrow if weather is acceptable. SMACK, time to saddle up :-)
Believe it or not, I was out today, no slacking for me. A last minute change of plans allowed me to sneak out on the family for an out and back to Jemseg, 105km door to door, wind was tough on the way back and man, am i outta shape! Relaxing now with a beer and nacho chips, the fuel of champions.Tri NB Board meeting tomorrow morning and then family stuff in the afternoon so unfortunately no rides for me :( Hope you guys (and gals?) have a great trip to NC!
Great to hear yuor able to make it out Smack. hopefully before too long we can all get together for some group rides. Harsh reminder this morning that it's still only March!
I am looking forward to that but I tell ya, I think you guys will drop me like a bad habit...I really need a few more miles in my legs before joining group rides! Cheers!
Anonymous your so thoughful... Will tell mother we are well looked after. We are in contact with Radical Edge ride daily. Nice that there is only 1,100 posted routes in Ashville. The challenge is fitting them all in. 3 more sleeps!!!!
Turbo stopped by today and dropped off the card and the newest OSB Jersey. Thanks, guys!!!! I'll definitely be on the road in it soon. I've been out on my mountain bike for some short spring rides, waiting for the sweeping and some rain to clean up the road a bit before I take out the Cervelo. I think I saw Jazz along Deerwood the other day. Rod and I went to Thom Swift at the Playhouse, too. What a great show.
Enjoy the smooth roads in NC. Watch out for hypothermia though....it can catch you by surprise. And don't forget some lights for the tunnels!!
We'll be enjoying the hot tub at home :). Happy spring!

Taking some vac leave this week. So plan to bike Tuesday and Wednesday. From SS for 1:15pm each day. Post if interested
Hey Turbo,

I'll be going for a ride on Tuesday around 5. Should be able to fit that in now with the time change.
Post if interested and we can meet at SS, and change the time if needed.
Whatever Turbo!!!
Pebbles
We found your vest and will bring it to NC.
Dry roads will suffice, Rat! Riding In March Can't go wrong
I would like to get out for ride with you's, if that's cool. Where is the SS?
See you Boyz at 130 SS
It's on saunders street opposite the YMCA. We meet in th parking lot.
For Pscyclepathic and all other interested bodies, the SS is the Stepping Stone centre at Odell park, across from the Y on Saunders street, right beside the lawn bowling green. Lots of detail, just my style.
Thanks. See you there.
I won't be going at 5 any more in case anyone was planning on meeting me. Bike is in at the Edge for a tune-up.
Saw you lot cycling around the corner of Smythe & Woodstock Road - looking good in the new kits.
Some of us are still working... hard on such a great day!
How many months before Da Missus gets out Turbo?
Great Tuesday ride, Donut, Rat, Turbo and a special welcome to hsoJ. Mount Hope route is fine, some dirt on the way down. So much fun we'll give it another go tomorrow. Wednesday 1:30 SS.

Awesome ride today... Turbo, Rat and Donut. Thanks Boyz.
Sorry about repeating myself above, guess I hit the enter key couple extra times..:)
Donut if you feel like me, probably too weak to lift your finger off the keys. Phew, 93km of wind and hills.
Toasted...
thanx boyz,
If the weather is good I will join you Jazz. I can be there for either of those times. Just let me know what time you will be leaving at.
I prefer 5:00, but I can also do the other times.
Smoothy, sounds like you are doing a lot of important volunteer work. Without people like you the games wouldn't be a success! However, that is one long day.
I'm in for a Friday ride but can't go till 530 because of work.
Anyone up for a social pace ride around noon on Thursday. Coffee half way. I'm thinking the Sour Grape.
Thanks again for the tour of Mount Hope. See y'all after NC.
Be careful in NC. Reliable reports from a friend in Greenville indicate that the Parkway has more snow this year than in the past. In particular he expects that the tunnels will have more ice.

As long as the pace is reasonable, tomorrow count me in.
5:30 works for me. Count me in

Jazz,
There was talk tonight about a 10 am ride but I must agree that given the temperature I think waiting till at least noon would give us the nicest ride
Turbo, Zorro, Donut...what's the plan. I will acquiesse to whatever you want
Great ride tonight. Of course, Rat made it longer and harder than I planned
Did I say Rat was a thinker...I meant stinker
I am up for 10am start from SS
Jazz: 2:00 sounds good to me. I want to be out in the heat of the day.
Hey Zorro, 10 AM start works for me...
