Dear Friends; reserve Sunday September 18th from 10am till noon as a special date and time in your calendar. Recently, because I am a cyclist with determined intentions, I was approached by the organizers of a newly created fundraising initiative called “Tour of Hope”, to help set up the Fredericton segment of this province wide event. Of course because of my past experience I could not sit on the sideline and not take up the challenge. We are all familiar with other ride for cancer, cancer fundraisers, or ride for other causes, but this fundraiser has a structure that I feel suits me and other New Brunswickers because all funds remain here in the province. Since this disease never takes a break, we as a society should never stop the conquest of funds until it is cured. For these reasons and many more, and to make the event more exciting we at the Fredericton Dental Centre have teamed up with our friends at the Fredericton Swiss Chalet (Gary and Mary Timberlake) to be local sponsors of this event. Following the Tour of Hope ride with friends we are together sponsoring a complimentary Swiss Chalet meal. To allow all interested, young and old to take part we have made the route simple (little hills) which should be completed by most within one hour. As you will see on their web; the purpose of the ‘Tour of Hope’ organization is to educate new brunswickers on the importance of wellness and prevention, to purchase high tech equipment, to invest in the continuous training of the Dr Léon-Richard Oncology Cente team as well as to support research. Accommodate cancer patients from all communities around the province (free of charge) at the Mgr-Henri-Cormier Lodge. The Lodge has an occupation rate of 100% year-round. http://www.tourespoir.com/about-the-tour Since we have only just recently been offered this opportunity, the structure of this Fredericton chapter will be kept to its simplest form possible. All interested in taking part need only register online. The minimum individual cumulated donation to take part is $25 which will go entirely to the tour foundation; it also can be done online under ‘Fredericton’ chapter. Everyone can choose how much donation they can raise and feel good about it. Tour will start at the Fredericton Dental Centre at 10am, lunch will be at the Swiss Chalet at 11am. I am riding for Suzanne Kirby Violette who was taken too early by cancer, I am sure all of you have a similar reason to ride. Come and join us on the 18th….and bring your friends. Sincerely, Jean-Guy Violette
I thought that it was going to be wet in the a.m. But now the forecast looks doable! I am looking for company ( are you listening, Rat?). Blog if you are coming!
Unfortunately I will not get out of here before 5:00, which means I can only meet you at 5:30. Can we meet at your place to avoid parking issues with the frex?
Smoothy, have to go to Halifax this am and the commute I calculate would press me for time so will not this am be there but will call you tomorrow to work out a pick up time
I know it is a bit late But there are a few of us meeting at SS at 5:30 tonight Cheers Also I was told to tell Rat that we had a "rat ride" this morning out to Smoothies...34K an hour.. I am not to mention the wind.
Thanks to Stumpy for riding me to work this morning with the wind and also thanks to Rat for coming to pick me up and ride me back home against the wind. Contrary to popular belief, there is a draft behind Rat!
Herc and I will be at F'ton Dental in the morning! I registered but couldn't find the distance. My marathon training is wiping me out (20 miles today and 8 before the ride tomorrow) so please tell me it isn't far. OF course, it will be nothing for Herc, who will be able to fit to or three more activities in tomorrow before bedtime.
